Frequently Asked Questions

❓ What is The GRIT & IRON Network?

The GRIT & IRON Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping veterans cope with PTSD and rediscover purpose through hands-on creative work, including woodworking, art, and restoration. We operate a growing network of programs that combine craftsmanship, community, and healing.

❓ G.R.I.T. & I.R.O.N. are acronyms?

In true military fashion! GRIT, focusing on the inward progression, stands for Growth Restoration Identity and Tenacity while IRON, focusing more outwardly, stands for Impact Rebuild Outreach Now. There is a lot of symbolism and allegory built into the naming of our organization; We’re really proud of that.
Fun little extra “hidden” acronym: GAIN = GRIT And IRON Network… hence the “Veterans GAIN” at the top left of your screen. Want to know more about the acronyms? Check this out.

❓ Who can participate in the programs?

Most of our programs are specifically designed with veterans in mind and for the expressed purpose of helping veterans. For now, the only program open to non-veterans is the Veteran Support Corps.

❓ Why focus on creative work like woodworking and restoration?

Many veterans find healing through hands-on work that engages both mind and body. Creative disciplines like woodworking, art, and restoration offer a sense of purpose, accomplishment, and peace—while also building community and practical skills. At The GRIT & IRON Network, we believe that repurposing materials can help repurpose lives.
